No. We have been taught to believe that wine tastes better in a glass designed in a unique shape for different varieties, or at a minimum that we need a white wine glass, red wine glass or champagne flute to best enjoy the type of wine served in it.  That’s a great business model if you’re a wine glass producer, but it’s not great for the wine drinker’s budget.

When it comes to Gabriel-Glas universal wine glasses, form follows function: The broader base of the bowl of the glass and the conical shape at the top of the glass allow for the “nose” of a wine, its top, middle and a base notes to emerge in the glass. At the same time the broader base of the glass offers more surface to air contact, the drinker gets “closer” to the wine with Gabriel-Glas. Simplify life with one elegant glass and save money for wine purchases instead of a cupboard full of glasses!

There are two versions of the Gabrial-Glas, the StandArt glass, and the mouth-blown Gold Edition glass. Both glasses are made from the exact same material and share the same, iconic, silhouette. The difference is the method of construction. The StandArt glass features a machine-blown bowl and pulled stem, whereas the Gold Edition glass is completely hand-blown and handmade allowing it to weigh about 60 grams less. Each is an exquisite glass.

Historically lead was used as a component in fine crystal glassware. In the modern era lead has been replaced with barium oxide, zinc oxide or potassium oxide in part out of concerns over possible health impact from leaded crystal and because these other metals provide superior clarity and strength.

We recommend a 5oz pour in Gabriel-Glas, although many of our winery partners prefer a smaller pour.

Yes, Gabriel-Glas is made from lead-free crystal. This makes the glass safe to drink from and never alters the taste or quality of the wine.

Crystal can be stretched gossamer thin, which means a razor sharp rim that allows the wine to flow onto the palate smoothly. This helps to deemphasize alcohol and heighten fruit flavors. Crystal is also more porous than glass, which means that your wine coats the inside of the glass more thoroughly and thereby opens and drives the bouquet. Finally, crystal also refracts light better than glass, which showcases the wine’s color and further adds to the drinking experience.

Yes, Gabriel-Glas is dishwasher-safe. This makes the glasses easy to clean and maintain.

Gabriel-Glas is an Austrian company founded by renowned Swiss wine Critic René Gabriel.
