Gabriel-Glas: Gold Edition vs. StandArt

What Is the Difference Between the Gabriel-Glas Gold Edition & StandArt?

The iconic Gabriel-Glas shape is the result of a decades-long pursuit to design and craft a wine glass that is truly flattering to all types of wines. We are proud to make this glass in two construction methods: (a) Gold Edition which is mouth-blown and handmade; and (b) StandArt which is machine-blown and hand-finished.

About Gabriel-Glas

Gabriel-Glas, born from the visionary mind of René Gabriel, fondly referred to as "The Pope of Wine," stands as a testament to innovation and refinement in the realm of wine accessories. With a deep-seated commitment to enhancing the wine experience, René embarked on a quest to craft a vessel that transcended the limitations of conventional wine glasses. The result? A masterpiece of form and function – the Gabriel-Glas universal wine glass. Inspired by the contours of a rose, the silhouette of the glass boasts a conical, curved bowl, meticulously designed to elevate every sip. Once the precise details of the design of the glass were settled upon, René began the next step in the process: how to make his soon-to-be-iconic glass.

StandArt vs. Gold Edition

The Gabriel-Glas Gold Edition and StandArt are made from the same, exacting, lead-free crystal and they share the exact same size and shape. The difference lies in how the glasses are made. The Gold Edition is completely mouth-blown and handmade from beginning to end. It takes two artisans, working in tandem, about 15 minutes to make each glass. Each glass is singular and no two stems will ever be identical. True craftsmanship at its finest.

The StandArt stem is an even better example of incredible engineering. The StandArt is a very rare wine glass because it is, in fact, machine-blown as opposed to “machine-made.” Meaning: it is a seamless piece of crystal that is blown into the signature shape of the bowl and the stem is pulled and the footplate formed from the same piece of crystal. No joints, no seams, no glues. This revolutionary process gives you a glass with handmade feel and function all for a fraction of the price of a mouth-blown glass.

When you compare the Gold Edition and the StandArt side-by-side you will see the difference: the weight of the glass and the thickness of the stem. The Gabriel-Glas Gold Edition is matchstick thin and light as a feather making it about 50 grams lighter than the StandArt. So the difference isn’t what the glass does for your wine, but how it makes you feel.

If you are looking for everyday use, the StandArt glass is for you. If you are looking for the ultimate expression in craftsmanship then the Gold Edition is the stem that will elevate your wine drinking experience like no other.
